Our Story
Founded in 2015 by Robert Oaks, Mighty Acorn Counseling was born out of a vision to provide quality, comprehensive care for individuals struggling with addiction and mental health issues. With a focus on treating the whole person, we’ve grown from a small practice to a trusted telehealth addiction and mental health services provider across Ohio.

Our Founder's Journey
Robert Oaks, LPCC-S (Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor Supervisor), brings over three decades of personal recovery experience to Mighty Acorn Counseling. After working in various treatment facilities and observing shortcomings in patient care, Robert was inspired to create a practice that truly puts clients first.
“I started Mighty Acorn Counseling to provide better, more comprehensive care,” Robert explains. “I saw too many places that weren’t really providing quality care to people. Our goal is to ensure that clients aren’t just getting medication, but also receiving the counseling they need to gain the skills to potentially get off suboxone and learn how to deal with life on life’s terms.”
The Meaning Behind Our Name
The name “Mighty Acorn” reflects our philosophy on growth and recovery:
“I really feel like when people are stuck in addiction and mental health issues, they’re like an acorn stuck in its shell,” Robert says. “We need to teach them the tools to break out of that shell so that they can grow and eventually become a mighty oak tree.”
This metaphor embodies our belief in every individual’s potential for growth and transformation.

Our Mission and Approach
At Mighty Acorn Counseling, we’re committed to:
- Providing high-quality, ethical care
- Treating the whole person, not just their addiction
- Breaking down barriers to treatment
- Supporting long-term recovery and personal growth
We achieve this through a combination of medication-assisted treatment (MAT), counseling, case management, and life skills support.

Flexible Telehealth

Our services are primarily virtual, allowing clients to receive care from the comfort of their homes.

Innovative
Approaches
We offer conveniences like mailed drug screening kits to make treatment more accessible.

Long-Term
Support
Many of our clients have been with us for years, receiving ongoing support as they navigate recovery.

Whole-Life
Focus
We assist with housing, employment, relationship counseling, and other life skills to support overall well-being.
“At many treatment centers, once a client’s insurance coverage ends, so does their care – even if that client is homeless. We saw this happening and knew it wasn’t right. At Mighty Acorn Counseling, we believe in caring for the whole person, not just their insurance status. That’s why we provide services to help them regain insurance coverage and other needs if the coverage ends. Our commitment is to the individual’s overall well-being and long-term recovery.”
